The Eighth Annual Agi Hirshberg Symposium for Pancreatic Cancer – a think tank for pancreatic cancer research being conducted across the nation – was held January 31, 2012 at the UCLA Faculty Center. Originally created to encourage collaboration between clinicians, researchers and physicians as well as to educate patients and their families, this year’s Symposium was the most successful to date.

The morning’s Medical Session began with six Foundation Seed Grant Program recipients presenting new strategies in management for pancreatic cancer. This was followed by a luncheon, where patients sat alongside physicians and researchers in an intimate casual setting. After lunch, the speakers at the Patient and Family Session discussed topics including Research and Surgery, Palliative Care and the GI Process for Pancreatic Cancer. We were honored to have Dr. Diane Simeone, Dr. Melbern Wilcox, Dr. Thomas Strouse and Dr. Charles Brunicardi deliver their informative presentations and answer questions from the audience. We ended our session with small group discussions led by specialists from the Cancer Legal Resource Center and UCLA Cancer Genetics.
